Governance

Transfer and transformation are guided by a three-part governance structure that includes:

Six First Nations regional Caucuses

Caucuses

Each Caucus, through its own process, is responsible for appointing that number of persons who are either a Chief or a Councillor of a First Nation to serve on the Keewatinohk Inniniw Okimowin Council (KIOC), as set out in the bylaws to serve as the members.

There are currently 6 caucuses representing 23 First Nation communities.

Keewatinohk Inniniw Okimowin Council (KIOC)

Members are appointed by each Caucus and must be a Chief or Councilor of a First Nation. This group forms the membership of the corporation.

The KIOC appoints the Board of Directors, advocates for Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin, and is the only part of the governance structure with the authority to change the bylaws.

Health Transformation Facilitators

Each caucus region has a Health Transformation Facilitator (HTF) who will meet with community members to facilitate discussions and informational events. Health Transformation Facilitators are guided by the Keewatinohk Inniniw Okimowin Council (KIOC) priorities, which include ensuring that everyone has a voice and opportunity to be involved. This is especially important for youth and Elders. Community members and health staff are encouraged to participate in the discussions with their HTF at the community-level by offering their input via email, phone conversation, text, in person, by invitation, by visits, or at a public forum. Leadership relies upon the HTFs to inform community members about KIM Inc.

Here are the current HTF representatives:

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors have a broad range of skills and experience enabling them to act together effectively to fulfill the mandate of Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin (KIM Inc.).

There are criteria set out in the KIM Inc. bylaws that Board of Directors (click here for details) members must fit in order to be eligible.

The Board of Directors are responsible for the overall affairs of KIM Inc.. Members are selected by the Keewatinohk Inniniw Okimowin Council (KIOC).
